Journal of Contaminant Hydrology

Special Issue on Sorption and Transport Processes Affecting the Fate of Environmental Pollutants in the Subsurface

Abstract submissions are invited for a special issue of the Journal of Contaminant Hydrology focusing on the combined effects of sorption and transport processes on the fate of environmental pollutants in the subsurface.  Several recent publications have refined our understanding of sorption processes affecting the fate of environmental pollutants found in many soils, aquifers and sediments.  It is obvious that considering grain-scale sorption kinetic processes, non-linear sorption isotherms, the heterogeneity of various forms of sorbent materials in the environment and their heterogeneous spatial distribution profoundly affect pollutant degradation, bioavailability and transport.  However, because of the constraints on computation time or scale differences between experimental settings and field work, many of these processes are not included or are simplified in large-scale computational models.  The importance of the new findings related to sorption processes need to be more thoroughly discussed in terms of their wider environmental significance.  Advances in experimental and field work as well as modelling studies elucidating the combination of sorption and transport processes are invited for this special issue.

The Journal of Contaminant Hydrology is an internationally acclaimed journal publishing scientific articles pertaining to the contamination of groundwater. Emphasis is placed on investigations of the physical, chemical, and biological processes influencing the behaviour of organic and inorganic contaminants in both the unsaturated (vadose) and saturated zones.  The Journal of Contaminant Hydrology is included in the Science Citation Index and has a 2010 Impact Factor of 2.010 and a 5-Year Impact Factor of 2.345.

Abstracts should be sent to the guest editors by November 28, 2010.  Successful abstracts will be notified by the guest editors.  Manuscript submission will be possible from November 30, 2010 till February 28, 2011.
